Hi, I’m Dr. Kalpana DePasquale
My first memory of wanting to become a doctor was when I was about five years old and my father was sick. It wasn’t anything serious – probably just a head cold – but I remember this overwhelming feeling of wanting to make him feel better.
Flash forward to medical school, and I became really interested in surgery and the idea that you could repair the human body. I chose ENT as my specialty, because there are so many different ways to practice it. My primary interests are in sinuses and the voice, but what I really love about my practice is being able to take care of the whole family. I’ve taken care of a grandmother, her daughter and her granddaughter.
To be entrusted with an entire family’s healthcare, that’s special.
Changing my focus
I hadn’t been practicing ENT for very long when my patients began to ask me about minimally-invasive procedures. I realized what an honor it is that they trust me with such an important part of who they are – their face.
But it wasn’t until I went through a significant event in my own life that I was ready to transform my practice. When I was in my mid-thirties, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The experience of facing my own mortality led me to make some big changes in my life, such as creating safer alternatives for taking care of my skin. This eventually lead to the launch of my medical spa, Avanti Med Spa, and my product line, KalVera Skincare (formerly Avanti Rx).
Avanti Medical Spa, was founded on the belief that people can improve the health of their largest major organ – their skin – without aggressive cosmetic procedures. My patients come in saying they want to look as young as they feel. That’s why we start with a skin analysis so we can treat the root of the problem and not simply apply the cosmetic version of a Band-Aid.
One thing I learned through my experience with thyroid cancer was that many of the products we use on our skin to correct our problem areas are full of harsh chemicals. I researched the marketplace, searching for a solution that was both effective from a medical perspective while also being safe for the skin. When I found no suitable solutions, I created KalVera Skincare (formerly Avanti Rx).
