St. Augustine Ear, Nose and Throat, LLC has new GRASTEK; FDA approved grass pollens allergy tablet for children as young as five years old
St. Augustine, Fla. – June 6, 2014 – Dr. Kalpana DePasquale, DO and founder of St. Augustine Ear, Nose & Throat and Avanti Medical Spa, is now prescribing the new U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved GRASTEK® (Timothy Grass Pollen Allergen Extract) tablet for the treatment of grass pollen-induced allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis. According to Dr. DePasquale, the highly-effective allergy treatment is a sublingual pill and can be prescribed with a positive skin test for common allergies specific to grass pollens. Patients from five to 65 years of age can benefit from the treatment, but is not indicated for the immediate relief of allergic symptoms and contraindications must be regarded.
“Every grass pollen season, many patients with moderate to severe nasal and eye allergies are at their worst,” said Dr. DePasquale. “However, some patients have multiple allergies and they can be candidates for immunotherapy through allergy shots. As an option, GRASTEK is a new sublingual, ‘under the tongue’ medication to offer patients with many of these irritating sensitivities,” she said.
Symptoms of grass pollen-induced allergies may include sneezing, runny or itchy nose, stuffy or congested nose, or itchy and watery eyes. Timing of the grass pollen season can vary regionally across the United States, but most often occur during the spring, summer and fall seasons.
